Drum Lesson Policies at Boise Drum Studio

Lesson offerings

Boise Drum Studio offers two types of drum lessons: recurring weekly lessons and one-off coaching/check-up lessons.

Recurring weekly lessons are optimal for most students, particularly beginners and student musicians preparing for high-school music competitions or college percussion auditions. Our attendance policy encourages consistent practice, which leads to better progress in these lessons.

One-off lessons are suited to advanced students who want a focused coaching session or an introduction to a specific technique; this option also works well for busy adult students whose schedule accommodates only an occasional session.

Pricing

My lesson pricing includes weekly half-hour drum lessons at $125 per month, due at the first lesson of the month. If you prefer hour-long weekly lessons, those are available for $240 per month.

One-off sessions are priced at $40 for a half-hour drum lesson and $75 for an hour-long session.

I accept cash, check, Venmo, and PayPal.

No-commitment trial lesson

To ensure my approach to drum lessons and percussion pedagogy is the right fit for your aspiring drummer, I offer a no-commitment trial lesson for just $30. This allows prospective students to experience my teaching style before committing to weekly drum lessons.

Location

I'm located in Southeast Boise between Liberty and Riverside elementary schools, making it easy for local students to attend drum lessons. I'm convenient to East and Les Bois junior high schools, as well as Timberline High School, with on-street parking available for your convenience.

My studio is serviced by two major public transit routes and is just 10 minutes from downtown Boise via Parkcenter Blvd. I’m also only five minutes off of I-84, ensuring that my studio is easily accessible for percussion students traveling from Meridian, Nampa, and Mountain Home.

For prospective students in Ketchum, Hailey, and other areas in the Wood River Valley, I offer remote drum and percussion lessons (and occasional in-person visits) through the Sun Valley Music Institute.

Attendance policy

For weekly drum lessons, you're essentially renting my availability for that day and time, so there are no refunds for absences. If requested, I will try to schedule an in-person or online makeup lesson for the following day, but this is at my discretion and subject to availability. This is standard policy at any established professional teaching studio in both the U.S. and Europe.

For one-off lessons, payment is expected ahead of time to reserve your position on my schedule. If for some reason you can't attend, please let me know as soon as possible and I'll do my best to schedule a make-up, but that is dependent on availability. There are no refunds for missed one-off lessons.

I operate Monday through Friday with the following exceptions: July 4, Thanksgiving, and the two-week period that includes Christmas and New Year's Day. Any lessons that fall in these periods will be credited for the following month.

In the event that I have to miss a lesson, I will offer a virtual lesson, a make-up slot, or a lesson credit.

Instrument Rentals

If you don't have your own instrument, no problem! I own and operate Idaho Percussion Rentals, which offers a wide range of instrument rentals, including xylophones, marimbas, timpani, and drum sets for rent in Boise. Rental rates are nominal for currently enrolled students, making it easy to access the equipment you need for your drum lessons. Please inquire about a rental when scheduling your lesson.

Visitors

Parents are certainly welcome to stay with their student during the drum lessons. However, additional guests can be distracting, which is why I require advance approval before non-immediate family members attend. This ensures that everyone can focus on the lesson.

Pets

Our household has two cats and a dog, so please let me know beforehand if allergies are a concern. Accordingly, student's pets are not permitted in our studio. However, you are welcome to walk them in our neighborhood park, which is adjacent to my home.
